Technically, no hard and fast regulations must be followed to label a facility a spa.’ As a result, the phrase has practically become generic. The words can refer to a space in the back of a hair salon that offers massages, manicures, and pedicures. It may be a half-dozen rooms near a hotel pool or fitness centre. It can also be a large, complete destination spa or wellness resort with hundreds of treatment rooms focusing on body treatments, alternative modalities, wellness therapies, and healthy living programmes, including fitness, stress management, and nutrition.
One is not always superior to the other.
Two factors determine satisfaction and good value: your specific goals, wants, and preferences, as well as qualified and knowledgeable therapists who nurture and care for you. Here’s a taste of what you may want to get in the wonderful nation of spas.
Day spas and stay spas are the two broad classifications.
Spas that are open during the day
Day spas are typically found in urban areas or communities, and they do not offer to lodge, and they mostly cater to the local market. They might, however, form a partnership with a nearby hotel to provide weekend getaway packages. Some will only offer basic body treatments and aesthetic services, while others provide a comprehensive list of international and alternative therapies.
Spas where you can stay
Stay Spas can be found in inns, hotels, and resorts, and they can provide lodgings and services and treatments. They range from the best basic to the most wealthy. Day Spas can use the same facilities as Stay Spas. If you stay at the No Spa Hotel, you may be able to book treatments at the nearby Super Spa Hotel. Just make sure to phone ahead because resort spas fill up rapidly, especially during peak season when the resort is at capacity. Day visitors can also expect to have access to lockers and change facilities. Robes are usually provided as well.
Spas with a destination
Destination Spas are also included in the Stay Spa category. We prefer the terms Health & Wellness Spas or Health & Fitness Spas. However, it appears that Destinations Spas is the industry standard. Now, this is where you’ll run into some confusion because the definition of a “destination spa” varies depending on who you ask.
At Travel to Wellness, we describe Destinations Spas as places where the spa is the main attraction. The emphasis is on wellness, the art of well-being, and the promotion of activities and educational sessions aimed at helping people build skills for a healthy lifestyle. The spa treatments, workshops, and fitness facilities will be the main draws for visitors to this type of establishment. They may golf, horseback ride, or play tennis, but the spa is the primary reason for their stay. You can have a resort with a wonderful spa with imported marble, designer lighting, top-of-the-line furnishings, and 20 treatment rooms. Still, it’s not a destination spa if customers come for the amazing championship golf course as much as the spa.
Guests at a destination spa will feel at ease going around in robes, dining in robes, and reclining around the pool or garden because everyone else will be doing the exact thing. Of course, there may be 1 dining room or restaurant where street clothes are required or evening dining where appropriate attire is required, but at destination spas,’ spa robes’ are the fashion statement.
Medical spas, often known as Medi-Spas, are a medical spa type.
An institution that offers a mix of traditional medicine and alternative health treatments and medical consultations. Medical personnel can be full-time or part-time, depending on the facility. It can provide a variety and number of talks and treatments to address a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, including depression, sleeping disorders, headaches, weight management, and total mind-body-spirit healthcare. A day or stay spa may refer to more medical-related operations such as laser hair removal, laser foto facials, and Botox injections as a Medi-Spa.
Spa with Minerals
Natural mineral springs are available at this location. Bathing in these natural mineral springs can aid in maintaining optimum body function by regulating the body’s PH level, improving blood circulation cell regeneration, and assisting with hydration.
Spa on a Cruise
Cruise ships will, of course, have spa facilities.
Wellness and Well-Being Centers
Facilities are starting to refer to themselves as Health and Wellness Centres, Centres for Well-being, and other such designations in this new Age of Wellness, seeing an increasing number of people become more pro-active in our health care. Keep in mind that, as the terms,’ there are no laws or regulations governing which type of business can call itself a ‘Wellness Centre.’ So go past the signage to see what the facility has to offer and the credentials of the therapists.
